Victorian Terms related to Crochet

Antimacassar: Cover to protect the back or arms of furniture from Macassar oil or other hair preparations.

Boa: Long fluffy scarf.

Capote: Long, hooded cloak or overcoat. or small bonnet with tie strings and a long mantle.

Comforter: Warm wrap for the neck; long narrow scarf.

Fascinator: Light head scarf of crochet or lace.

Pelerine: Short shaped shoulder cape; usually with long ends hanging down in front.

Pelisse: Full-length lightweight cloak or coat, often fur-trimmed and fur-lined.
